How to remove irrigation spots from car paint in St. Augustine

Sprinkler mist from the lawn hits the hood and dries into hard white rings. That’s irrigation etching on St. Augustine paint — not just water spots.

Hand-dried exterior finish on a car after irrigation-spot correction in a St. Augustine driveway

Early-morning sprinkler cycles in Palencia, Nocatee, and Anastasia Island driveways put mineral-heavy water on every horizontal panel. The mist dries in the sun before you leave for work. Those white rings are not plain water spots — they are mineral etching from hard water.

What do irrigation spots do to paint in St. Augustine?

Calcium and magnesium in local irrigation water bond to the clear coat when the car sits wet. On dark paint they show as permanent rings. On lighter cars they look like chalky patches that a hose never removes. Salt air from the Matanzas makes the film worse; the chloride holds more moisture against the minerals. Left for a few weeks the etch goes deep enough that only a polish levels it.

How to remove irrigation spots without swirling the clear coat

Do not scrub a dry hood. The minerals are grit. Foam, rinse with fresh water, then a chemical decontamination (iron remover + clay) lifts the bonded layer. We do that in the driveway so the car never goes through a tunnel that grinds the same minerals back in. After the surface is clean, a sealant or ceramic spray beads the next sprinkler cycle instead of letting it sit and etch.

The Studio package includes the clay and iron decon plus paint sealant. Atelier adds the single-stage polish if the spots have already etched. See the exact steps on the packages section. Most St. Augustine Beach and Vilano cars that live under sprinklers book Studio once a quarter and Driveway in between.
